I am making a web site on my laptop and every time I zoom into the web page, all the elements in the page get all displaced. How do I stop a browser from zooming in and out of a web page on a computer?

I just got a laptop, and I’m trying to connect it to the internet. But right now I have a modem, not a wireless router. I have an ethernet cable though, so I connected it from the modem right to the laptop. It still wont let me access internet. Suggestions?

The linksys router is wrt54g. I pulled the internet cable out of the router a few weeks ago and put it directly into the computer, and have been using wired internet since. Now, I want to use my laptop in other parts of the house again, but I cannot connect to the internet. The computer can connect to the wireless itself, but the router is aparently not receiving the internet or not sending it to the computer.
The modem and cable are fine to my knowledge.

I normally use my wireless Linksys router, but it often stops working for no reason. Is there a way I can hook my laptop into the phone line and access the Internet through that as an alternative?
By the way, I run Windows Vista.
