How to block others from using my internet from their computers?

I have a stepson that brings his computer from his mom’s house. He somehow uses our internet and plays on his computer not ours? How do I stop him from logging onto my internet from his computer?

First, you need to go into your router’s administration portal. I would imagine you are using a Linksys, Netgear, or other similar router. In order to access this page, you need type the IP address of the default gateway into your internet explorer bar. (Usually, it’s http://192.168.1.1 or http://10.0.0.1). It sometimes tells you on the bottom of the router what to put in.

Once you are there, you will need to go under the section labeled "Wireless Security". You might have to look around a bit, but it should be there. Once you’re there, you need to enable WEP encryption. (There are others as well, but WEP is one of the most common.) It will ask you for a passcode. After you enter your chosen passcode and hit ‘Generate Key’ it should spit out a code of numbers and letters. Write this down. (Sometimes it gives you several options… you just need the first one.) When you or anyone else goes to connect to your wireless network, they will be asked for this code. It will not let you connect until you enter it.

You will only need to enter the code on your end if you connect to your internet wirelessly. If you connect through an ethernet cable plugged directly into your router, you will need to do nothing when you go to connect, as normal. This just keeps people from stealing your wireless broadband connection.

You have to log in to your router’s configuration panel usually by accessing the gateway IP address from your web browser (i.e. 192.168.1.1) then you have to go to your wireless settings page and set a WEP or WPA key.

Whats wrong with him using his computer on your internet? Unless you have a bandwidth cap or have slow internet I don’t see a problem with it. Therefore I won’t help you with such a ridiculous request.
